Weight Distribution FAQs

A Weight Distribution (WD) System takes the natural center of the weight off of your trailer hitch and distributes it between the tow vehicle and the trailer wheels.

Rather than merely supporting the trailer tongue weight (TW), Weight Distributing Hitches apply leverage between the towing vehicle and trailer causing the TW to be carried by all axles of both the tow vehicle and the trailer.

Kits Including Sway Control - Think of these as the ultimate hitches, giving the driver great control at a reasonable cost.

The Strait-Line™ series combines the patented Dual Cam High Performance Sway Control and the High Performance Weight Distributing (WD) System in one easy-to-install package. It comes in a Trunnion Bar WD kit with Shanks and also a Round Bar WD kit with Shanks.

There is also a Pro Series SC model which has a Friction Sway Control built-in. It's an all in one package that is easy to install and is affordable.

Heavy Duty - The Heavy Duty kits have a higher GTW and are available in both Trunnion Style (GTW - 10,000 to 12,000 lbs.) and Round Bar Style (GTW 10,000 lbs.), both of which come with the shank.

Light Duty - The Light Duty kits have a lower GTW (3,500 - 4,000 lbs.) rating than the Heavy Duty and come in both single and double Spring Bar models.

Trunnion Bar - These Weight Distributing Hitches have a square type (Trunnion) set of Spring Bars.

Round Bar - These Weight Distributing Hitches have a round type set of Spring Bars.
