A Weight Distribution (WD) System takes the natural center of the weight off of your trailer hitch and distributes it between the tow vehicle and the trailer wheels.
Rather than merely supporting the trailer tongue weight (TW), Weight Distributing Hitches apply leverage between the towing vehicle and trailer causing the TW to be carried by all axles of both the tow vehicle and the trailer.

A Weight Distributing Hitch System is made up of four major components.
The Hitch Receiver - Physically bolted to the vehicle frame, this is the component that has an opening at the rear that is a recepticle which will accept a ball mount or a shank.
The Ball Mount - This part fits into the receiver and allows the vehicle to tow trailers, attach bike racks, cargo carriers and other items.
The Spring Bar Assembly - Usually in pairs (single spring bar models are available) these bolt to the shank and are attached at the opposite end by chains. They allow for some play in getting the vehicle and the trailer to align in a straight line without either sagging.
The Sway Control - The Sway Controls controls the “side-to-side” movement between the vehicle and the trailer.
