Fifth Wheels FAQs

Fifth Wheel Hitches are a special class of hitch that mounts over or forward of the rear axle of the towing vehicle. The vehicle being towed has a king pin on the end of the trailer which fits into the specially designed notch on the Fifth Wheel Hitch.

What are the different types of Fifth Wheels?

Heavy Duty with rails under the pickup bed
Heavy Duty with the rails in the pickup bed
Standard with the rails in the pickup bed

All these Fifth Wheel Hitches are manufactured in a variety of weight capacities.

The newer heavy duty types tend to have the slot for the king pin on the head rather than the older design with the slot in the body. All three types perform the same function, they just do it with the rails in different places.
